Color-Coated Steel Sheet Implementation Standards and Their Industry Significance

Sep 30, 2025

Color-coated steel sheet is a metal composite material widely used in construction, home appliances, transportation, and other fields. Its quality and performance directly impact the reliability and safety of downstream products. To ensure standardized production and application of color-coated steel sheet, countries have established strict implementation standards to regulate production processes, material properties, and testing methods.
In China, the main implementation standards for color-coated steel sheet include GB/T 12754-2019, "Color-Coated Steel Sheet and Strip." This standard defines terminology, classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and packaging, marking, transportation, and storage requirements for color-coated steel sheet. The standard categorizes color-coated steel sheet according to its intended use into exterior building applications, interior building applications, and home appliance applications, and specifies key performance indicators such as coating thickness, adhesion, salt spray resistance, and weather resistance. For example, the coating thickness for exterior building applications is typically required to be ≥ 20 μm, and the sheet must pass a neutral salt spray test (≥ 1000 hours) and UV aging tests (QUV or xenon lamp aging) to ensure durability for long-term outdoor use. Internationally, the standard systems for color-coated steel sheets are represented by ASTM A755/A755M (American Society for Testing and Materials) and EN 10169 (European Standard). ASTM standards focus on coating durability and processability, while EN 10169 details coating types, performance testing, and quality control methods for pre-coated metal sheets. These international standards provide a unified technical language for global trade, ensuring comparability and interchangeability of color-coated steel sheets produced in different regions.

Strict implementation of color-coated steel sheet standards not only ensures product quality but also promotes technological advancement in the industry. Companies must meet standard requirements by optimizing coating formulations, refining coating processes (such as roller coating and spray coating), and strengthening quality control (such as online testing and third-party certification). In the future, as environmental protection requirements increase, color-coated steel sheet standards will further strengthen regulations for low-VOC coatings and recyclable substrates to adapt to the trend of green manufacturing.

In short, color-coated steel sheet implementation standards are the cornerstone of the healthy development of the industry. Their scientific and rigorous nature directly impacts product market competitiveness and user trust.
