Steel coils are important industrial raw materials, and their storage methods directly impact their quality and service life. Proper storage management not only prevents deformation and rust, but also improves storage efficiency and reduces the risk of loss.
Storage Environment Requirements
Steel coils should be stored in a dry, ventilated indoor environment, avoiding direct exposure to moisture, rain, or snow. The ideal storage temperature is 10-30°C, and relative humidity should be kept below 60%. If outdoor storage is necessary due to limited conditions, they must be completely covered with a waterproof tarpaulin and raised at least 30 cm below the surface to prevent water from seeping in.
Stacking Methods and Support
Steel coils should be stacked according to the principle of "heavy bottom, light top." The bottom layer of coils should be placed on flat, sturdy skids or special pallets, with skids no more than 1.5 meters apart to ensure even distribution of load. Single-layer stacking should not exceed 3 tons, and the total height is recommended to be kept within 2 meters to prevent deformation of the bottom layer. Steel coils of different specifications should be stacked separately and clearly marked for easy management. Rust Prevention and Protective Measures
The surface of steel coils should be inspected regularly. If condensation or moisture is detected, the coils should be ventilated and dried promptly. For long-term storage, apply anti-rust oil or wrap with anti-rust paper. For high-precision or specially coated steel coils, vacuum packaging or vapor phase anti-rust technology is recommended. Specialized lifting equipment should be used during handling to prevent damage from direct contact between the wire rope and the coil edge.
Safety Management Standards
Warehouses should have clear aisles and ensure easy access to firefighting equipment. Regularly inspect the stability of support structures to prevent rotting or deformation of wooden skids. Operators should wear protective equipment and comply with safety procedures for lifting operations. Hazardous operations are strictly prohibited in the steel coil storage area.
